Runescape is open to all players and can be paid completely free but paid members have access to more skills, quests and areas of the game. This means that many of the money making guides don't work for free members.
This guide will show you how to make money in Runescape by completing a little banana picking side quest that is open to all members and the only thing you need to start is 30gp. Your first stop is Port Sarim.
I don't know where you are in the Runescape world so I'll give directions from Lumbridge which is the starting location for all players. Port Sarim is west of Lumbridge but the easiest way to find it is simply to follow the road North of Lumbridge and this will take you straight to Port Sarim.
Along the way you'll find yourself in a forest which has loads of little level 2 goblins running around. These goblins drop money so if you don't have that 30gp that you need, whack a few of these goblins on the way through the forest.
Taking the Boat to the Island of Karjama
The road will take you through the forest and onto Port Sarim. There are various docks here and you need to look for a sailor dressed in blue. He is at the end of one of the docks about half way down the pier. Ask him to take you to the Island of Karjama. He will offer to take you for 30 gold. Pay the fee and take the trip.
Lets Get to Work!
The guy in charge of these bananas is called Luthas and he lives in a small house on the island, just a short way from the dock. You can't miss him. He needs some help filling creates with bananas. Speak to him to pick up the job - he will offer to pay you 30gp for each crate load that you fill.
The banana plantation is a short walk from Luthas' house, just up the path. There is no shortage of trees and each one has around 5 bananas swinging from it. Now here's the good part - usually in Runescape when you want to do something like cut a tree down or mine a rock it takes several seconds but banana picking is instant! So you can collect them really quickly.
Once you've picked your bananas you need to fill the crate before Luthas will pay you. The crate is at the front of his house and you can just right click on it to fill it up. It takes 10 bananas to fill the crate. make sure you don't click the bananas from your inventory because they count as food in the game and you'll eat them!
Once you've filled the crate go speak to Luthas to get your payment. Once he gives you the payment, speak to him again to repeat the task. Now you can just do this over and over and rack up 1000gp in about an hour. Now, if you want to be a really nice player, and if you see other free players struggling for money, show them how to make money in Runescape just by picking a few bananas!

Top-level comments on this article: (8 total)this doesn't really work well as it is quite slow(30hrs=30k=rune scimatar)....you should actually fish at port sarim not pick bananas...
That was helpful for a little while. It works for new players. Good tip ;)
i would help if ur a noob but i would use it if i was lvl 3 but not lvl 66 three the way i would make money i would use clay and wet it clay sells for 100 or it soft clay is 16k to 18k
no i would mine iron and silver or with 28 you get 3k
if you raise your mining to 40 you can mine gold in karamja volacano there you fill your inventory then teleport out and deposit then return28 ores give you 18k!
I LIKE TURTLES!!
(^.^)
the way i would do it is kill cows and take cow hides 28 cowhides give u about 4789 GP. If u dont know where to find cows just go to the farm north of lumbridge.
Another good way is to get your fishing level up high, go to Karjama and fish for tuna.Sell the tuna at the Grand exchange which is located north of Varrock, or sell them at any general store.Tuna is good to fish for as you only need one harpoon to catch it.another great way is to mine for silver then sell the plain ore at the Grand Exchange for a lot of gp.
